Introduction – About CTET Paper II
The CTET Paper II is the qualification exam for candidates who intend to be a teacher for classes VI to VIII.
Any candidate, who wishes to be eligible to be a teacher for both levels (classes I to V and classes VI to VIII) will have to appear in both the papers (Paper I and Paper II). Both of these papers can be attempted in the same exam in 2024 or 2025 OR candidates may choose to attempt each paper in different exam years.
- Candidates may choose to take up Paper I before Paper II or vice-versa. (No specific order has been prescribed by the authorities.)
- Candidates may have a gap of any number of years between attempting Papers I and II
- There is no upper age limit for taking up the CTET exam
- The qualification certificate for Papers 1 and 2 are independent of each other – and will be valid for lifetime
Structure & Type of Questions in the CTET Paper II – CDP
All the questions in the CTET Paper II – 2024 and 2025 examination will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), with four answer options – with one correct / best / appropriate answer.
Each question will carry one mark for the correct answer; and there will be no negative marking for wrong answers or un-attempted questions.
The complete paper 2 will be for 150 marks (150 MCQs) – of which, Child Development and Pedagogy will have 30 MCQs (30 marks). CDP is a mandatory subject in the CTET Paper 2.
The time allotted for paper II will be Two-and-a-half hours (180 minutes) – which means that candidates will have an average of 72 seconds for each question. Realistically speaking, candidates should practice solving Paper 2 at a speed of 1 question per minute.
CTET Paper II – CDP – Nature and standard of questions
The questions (MCQs) on Child Development and Pedagogy in the CTET paper 2 will focus on educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 11 to 14 years (Elementary Stage).
They will assess the candidate’s understanding of the characteristics and needs of diverse learners, interaction with learners and the attributes and qualities of a good facilitator of learning.
