Those with a learner’s permit must drive with an adult 21 years of age or older. The adult the learner’s permit holder is driving with must have a valid driver’s license in any U.S. state or the District of Columbia. It is required that a permit holder doesn’t only get practice driving in perfect conditions, but also with driving at night and driving in inclement weather. Permit holders are also required to get practice driving on limited-access highways.
A classroom driver’s education course may be taken by 10th grade students in Pennsylvania, since that is the year when most students will turn 16 years old and will be getting their permit. Permit must be held for six months and the holder must log 65 practice hours before issuance of restricted license. Those with a restricted license may not drive between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless a family member 18 years or older is present. Exceptions to this curfew include school-sponsored events, religious events, work, and volunteer firefighters.
Only one non-family passenger under the age of 18 is permitted for the first six months of holding a junior license. Only three non-family passengers permitted until the driver turns 18. A restricted license automatically becomes an unrestricted license on the learner’s 18th birthday.

2020 Pennsylvania State Drivers Manual
The questions in the Pennsylvania state Drivers Knowledge Test / Written test are derived from the official drivers manual. You should be thoroughly familiar with various aspects including highway signs, traffic signals and pavement markings, vehicle safety responsibility, right-of-way, signals, signs and markers, rules about parking, stopping, and standing, alcohol and drug impact on the driving ability (DUI rules) as applicable in the state.

2020 Pennsylvania State Drivers Written Test / Knowledge Test
Before being permitted to drive / learn driving in a motor vehicle, one of the first steps is to clear a written / knowledge test that assesses your theoretical knowledge of the driving rules in the state. The test may be conducted in a Paper / Pen or a Computer based Testing mode. (A normal computer terminal or a touch screen device.) The Knowledge Test will measure your knowledge of traffic signs, Pennsylvania’s driving laws and safe driving practices.
The Knowledge Test can be given in both written and audio format in the following languages Spanish, Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, Hindi, Korean, Russian, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, English, Burmese, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Nepali, Polish, Somali, and Urdu languages upon request, at all Driver License Centers across the commonwealth.
If you fail the Knowledge Test, you will be permitted to retake the test the following business day. This test needs to be successfully completed before you can receive a valid learner’s permit.
The Knowledge Test consists of 18 multiple choice questions. You must answer at least 15 questions correctly to pass the test.

There is no negative marking in the Drivers Permit / License Written or Knowledge Test 2020.
Retaking the DMV / MOT / DOT Licence or Permit Written or Knowledge Test
Refer to the Driver’s Manual for details on the re-test procedure if you do not clear the Knowledge test in the first attempt. In general, you are allowed to retake the test with a reasonable time gap between each attempt.
You may have to pay the full testing fees for every attempt. In some cases, a longer time period may be required after a series of unsuccessful attempts, to ensure that the applicant has enough time to practice adequately for the next attempt.
